When the card is inserted, the ATM dials a 1-800 number to Next Gen’s network processor, NGT Smart Network, which adds the surcharge amount and then sends the transaction request to Interac or other network connections for authorization from the cardholder’s financial institution. Once authorized, a signal is sent back to the ATM to dispense the cash requested.
